Hi! What would you like to see offered in a new desert residence for artists, photographers, film makers, writers, and others? What would inspire you? What facilities are an absolute must, and what would be your single most important reason to want to stay at such a place? Thanks, Rod
I would want to do a desert residency to have time to spend outside on the land, learning about the plants and ecology of the place to inform my making. It would help to have at least basic electricity and internet to be able to charge my cameras (for photo and video work) and store the files. It would be nice to also have a studio space for drawing, painting, or just experimenting with materials collected from the land. A really helpful resource that I don't think most art residency programs think of would be a contact list of local scientists/ecologists/enthusiasts who would be willing to talk with artists about the local ecology - this could include science teachers, people who work for local water utilities, etc... If you're still thinking of creating a residency, I'm definitely interested.
