ANNE DEVINESan Francisco-based artist ANNE DEVINE originates site-specific distance walking performances and public walks. In 1993 she founded the nonprofit collective
GreenScene Media to promote creative combinations of environmental information and popular culture.
Her recent work includes
From New Orleans to Hopedale (2009), a 37+ mile solo walk connecting the 9th Ward levee breach to the path of Hurricane Katrina via the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO);
This fabulous shadow only the sea keeps. (2008), a 13,500 foot skydive into 24-mile solo night walk of Canaveral National Seashore coastline during the Lyrid meteor shower for Earth Day 2008;
From Fresno to Kerman unaided by light (2007); the
Night Walk series of group walks (2007);
Memorial Bench Walks (2007) along the Bow River in the Canadian Rockies; and
CROSSWALK marathon (2006) – 26.2 miles, one block, 161 circuits, one day.
ANNE DEVINE holds a BFA in Visual Art (Photography, Film & Video) from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, and an MFA in Fine Arts (Social Practice) from California College of the Arts. Additionally, she attended University of Montana for graduate work in Environmental Studies.
